About the Cronin Family
The pub is run by Sean Cronin and his dutch wife Thecla. Sean has been involved in the running of Cronins Pub since his parents Jo and Denny bought it in 1970.
His parents Jo and Denny used were involved in the service industry all their lives and ran numerous pubs, hotels and taxi services over the years. In later years they ran the Off Licence which was next door to the pub. Sadly, both Jo and Denny have now passed away but their memory still lives on.
Thecla is originally from The Hague in Holland and came to Ireland in the 70's. Thirty odd years later she has fulfilled her dream of living in Ireland with two Irish red-haired kids, and instead of living in a tatched cottage, she is living in a pub on the side of the road. Her other passion is arts and crafts and she is a keen artist and jewellary maker herself. In 2006 she opened her own craft shop next door to the pub. Here you can find a range of interesting and unusual gifts including pottery, paintings, photographs and jewellerymade by local artists and craftspeople.
Sean and Thecla have two children, Joleen and Denis. Both play an active role in the business. Denis has studied cheffing and bar management and recently completed the Ballymalloe cookery course with Darina Allen. He is now spearheading the new restaurant venture Mad Fish which caters for evening meals in the pub. He is also a surf fanatic, and when he's not pulling pints or cooking up a storm in the kitchen, he's catching waves at any of the local beaches. Joleen is a multimedia graduate and has a passion for photography, travel and all things nautical.
