Views of Crosshaven – an exhibition by John Jermyn

Acclaimed artist John Jermyn will exhibit a selection of new oil paintings alongside selected work from Tadhg O’Scanaill, Eddie Fitzgibbon and Peter Mahony in Cronin’s Pub and the Mad Fish Restaurant, Crosshaven from November 18th.

JC061015 John Jermyn 3John Jermyn’s work will include a series of paintings “Views of Crosshaven”, portraying the essence of the village in its varying aspects. From his home at the edge of the cliff in Fennell’s Bay, the artist has nurtured a fascination with the landscape – the power, atmosphere, and mood that the seas, waterways and coastlines inspirit and generate. These paintings explore different aspects in contrasting settings varying from tranquil shorelines or a still canal to raging high seas, initially allowing a glimpse of its subject but then encouraging the viewer into something else, something bigger.

’Jermyn’s use of brilliant orange into red, which is common through many of his paintings, provides a strange twist. This use of colour could be described as supernatural but it curiously pulls the observer closer in to the painting and then beyond’ (Irish Times).

Earlier this year, John was selected to take part in Sky Arts Landscape Artist Of The Year 2015, as a wild card entrant, on location at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire. The programme was recently televised on Sky Arts Channel.

John Jermyn is also an art tutor offering one to one and group painting sessions.

Tadhg
unnamed

Tadhg O’Scanaill has been painting land and seascapes in the lower harbour area for many years with particular focus on the Cork and Kerry coasts. He works in both watercolours and oils and enjoys the challenge of catching the atmosphere and energy of the marine environment. During 2015, he has been drawn by the Wild Atlantic Way publicity to explore previously unseen stretches of the west coastal counties from Donegal to Cork. He is currently working on the development of a Wild Atlantic Way Collection.

Peter Mahony is a student of John Jermyn and is now a progressive painter with an individual style.  He paints in the medium of oils.  Also, in addition to his keen interest in painting, Peter is a published poet and has recently completed a MA in American Film & Literature and BA in English and Philosophy from UCC.

Eddie Fitzgibbon is a photographer concentrating on coastal landscapes and has photographed many areas along the south coast from Kerry to Waterford and his native Cork, with the occasional foray inland. With a passion for the outdoors, he rarely ventures without a camera and this has allowed him to capture many unplanned images which add to his stunning collection.   Find out more on www.seascapesofireland.com
