Dive deep into the world of whiskey with a very special winter’s evening of food, whiskey tastings, cooperage demonstrations and live barrel charring. This one off event is hosted by the team at Irish Distillers and Cronin’s Pub, Crosshaven.
You are invited to arrive any time after 5pm and take in the atmosphere of our traditional bar. Enjoy a main course of your choice from the bar food menu which includes fish and chips, fresh steamed mussels, burgers and more.
Then wrap up warm as the rest of the evening will be hosted outdoors in our covered seating area. From 7pm we will be treated to hot whiskies and a cooperage demonstration by Irish Distillers Master Cooper Ger Buckley. Ger is a fifth-generation Midleton Cooper and a true craftsman in the purest form of the word. He will demonstrate the intricacies of a whiskey barrel as well as show us some of the tools and methods of the age old craft of cooperage. Ger is proud to tell you that “50% of a whiskey’s taste comes from the wood – so the wood and the distillation process have an equal effect on the taste”.
Following from this, Dave McCabe, production technologist in blending at Irish Distillers will guide us through a whiskey tasting which will include Jameson Black Barrel and the Cooper’s Croze from the Maker’s series. Dave has an extensive knowledge of whiskey and is a former Irish Distillers Whiskey Academy Tutor aswell an International Whiskey Ambassador.
Finally we will finish the evening with a live charring demonstration by cooper, Ger Buckley, where the inside of the whiskey barrel will be set alight. The resulted charring of the barrel gives extra flavours to the whiskey which is aged inside.
Tickets for this event cost €40. Must be purchased in advance. Limited numbers apply.
